The Executive Director of Freedom at Depth, Mr. Hubert Chrétien is a very experienced ice diving instructor and experienced cave diver who is in the process of becoming a cave diving instructor. Mr. Chrétien has certified many ice divers and has assisted in the training of several ice diving instructors. Mr. Chrétien has also dove in the Canadian Arctic and in Antarctica.
Mr. Chrétien has taken disabled divers under the ice and into caverns, always with the assistance of multiple highly trained diving professionals to maintain the highest standards of safety.
These experiences were wonderful for the students who were able to participate in extremely adventurous activities; however there was no way of formally recognizing these achievements. This is why Hubert Chrétien intends to develop an intro level technical diving program for people with disabilities.
This program would require disabled divers to dive with high level professionals and back up divers when participating in these activities. This is not only important for the safety of the disabled diver but for that of their buddies as well.
Upon completing his cave diving instructor program, Hubert Chrétien intends to formalize a Handicap Scuba association specialty course in cavern, ice, and deep diving.
